You can use PicThrive Instant as a server your FTP enabled cameras can connect to. Your cameras can be set to automatically transfer each photo they take to PicThrive Instant.

To get started:

  1. Start PicThrive Instant on your computer. (Install it if you haven't already!)
  2. Navigate to settings
  3. Scroll to "Folder Detection"
  4. Turn on this feature, and select a folder on your computer. This is where the FTP server will place new photos when they arrive.
  5. Choose if you want this folder to remain empty, or keep copies of files.
  6. Turn on the FTP Server
    1. If your firewall pops up, make sure you set it to "Allow" connections.
  7. Customize the configuration
    1. You can require FTPS if desired. This will encrypt all traffic. However, if you control your own network you should be save without it on.
    2. Add a username and password if desired, or leave it as anonymous.
  8. Lastly, you will see a list of IPs that this computer is listening on, you will need this to connect with your camera.
    1. Tip: Use your router to set a static IP for your computer. That way its always available at the same address.
  9. Grab your camera!
    1. Connecting with your camera will depend on its model and manufacturer. Use the IP and PORT from step 8. Use any username you setup (if applicable) from step 7.

Troubleshooting

Is your camera failing to connect to PicThrive Instant? Here are a few steps to help diagnose what is going on!

  1. Make sure PicThrive Instant is open on the same WiFi or LAN as your camera.
  2. Navigate to the Settings and find the IP addresses that PicThrive Instant is listening on. If you see more than 1 IP, try the other one on the camera.
  3. Make sure your Firewall allows incoming connections. Our process `dir-watch` needs to be set to "Allowed" on your Firewall. Make sure it is not blocked.
  4. Try follow these steps to make sure PicThrive instant is reachable by another computer: Kiosk can't find Local Mode images or server
    1. Also try use a program like FileZilla to connect to PicThrive instant.
