With PicThrive Instant and Automatic SD Card Uploading you can choose to enable QR Code detection. With this enabled, PicThrive Instant will automatically scan all the photos on the SD Card for any QR Codes. When it detects a QR Code it will use the name in the code for the name of a new album.

This feature can let you capture multiple guests or tours on a single SD Card. Then when plugged into PicThrive Instant it will automatically separate the photos into the correct albums.

To enable this feature:

  1. Go to Settings -> New Drive Detection
  2. Toggle "QR Codes disabled" so that it reads "We will search for QR codes before copying"
  3. Optionally toggle "Don't copy images with QR codes" to "Copy QR Code images" if you wish for the images containing QR codes to appear in the albums as well.

Example Use Case

Let's imagine you have two rafting trips running at the same time. One by the guide "Bob" and one by the guide "Jill". You want to use the same camera and SD Card when taking photos of these trips.

  1. Create a QR Code with the name "Bob's 3pm Raft"
    1. Use a tool like this one to create a text based QR Code
      1. Visit https://www.qr-code-generator.com/ on your phone
      2. Select "text"
      3. Enter your text
      4. Take a Photo of the QR Code so that it takes up at least 80% of the photo
    2. The name you use cannot contain any special characters Eg. "/" or "!" . Do not enable "tracking" when creating a QR code.
  2. Take several photos of your subject
  3. Create a secondary QR Code with a different name, eg "Jill's 3pm Raft" and take a photo of it.
    1. Pro Tip: Pre-create your QR Codes so they are ready to go when you need them.
  4. Take several photos of your subject
  5. Once done, eject the SD Card and plug it into your computer.
  6. PicThrive Instant will prompt you that a new SD Card was inserted. It will begin searching through all the photos for any QR Codes. This may take a while depending on the number of photos, their size, and the speed of the SD Card.
  7. Once done scanning PicThrive Instant will show you which QR Codes it detected, and let you create an album for each.
    1. If you don't want to click "New Album" each time, turn on "Create a new album and copy the drive into it" in the "New Drive Detection" settings.
